Just Be
by Jessica Mitchell
Hey everyone! Allow me to introduce myself.
My name is Jessica Mitchell, and I’d like to invite you to join me on a getaway called Little Book of Thoughts. But before we take that journey together, let’s get to know each other a little first. After all, who wants to travel with someone they barely know?
I am a breakout poet and debut author, and even now, it still feels surreal to say those words out loud. Becoming an author was never something I intentionally planned for myself. However, as I entered a new season of creativity and self-discovery, I realized I wanted to fully embrace the gifts that had quietly lived within me for years.
Poetry has always been something I loved, even from a young age, but I never truly explored what it could become until the spring of 2024. One day, while sitting in a park, words began flowing into my mind so naturally that I felt compelled to write them down. What started as a simple moment of inspiration slowly turned into something much greater. As the months passed, I found myself writing more and more, completely unaware that I was creating the foundation for my very first poetry collection, Little Book of Thoughts.
This book is deeply personal to me because it was written with complete freedom. There were no expectations, no filters, and no pressure—just honest thoughts and emotions poured onto the page. Through these poems, readers will experience pieces of my inner world through expressions of love, vulnerability, encouragement, imagination, sensuality, and growth.
To me, poetry is more than writing. Poetry is a getaway. It is a voyage into emotion, reflection, and self-expression. Writing allows me to travel freely through my thoughts, memories, dreams, and experiences in ways that are difficult to explain. My hope is that while reading Little Book of Thoughts, others can experience that same sense of freedom and escape for themselves. I want readers to feel seen, inspired, comforted, and reminded that they are allowed to simply exist as they are.
One of the things I cherish most about writing is that inspiration can come from almost anything. A conversation, a feeling, nature, music, heartbreak, healing, or even silence can spark creativity within me. I believe being easily inspired is a gift because it keeps us open to both the beauty and complexity of life. Sometimes inspiration comes from deep within ourselves, while other times it reveals itself through the people, places, and experiences we encounter along the way.
As I continue this journey as a poet and author, I do not know exactly where it will lead me, but I am excited to discover what unfolds next. What I do know is that I am incredibly grateful for the ability to express myself through poetry. There is something powerful about transforming emotions into words and finding connection through vulnerability.
Poetry feels like a language of its own—one that speaks not only to the mind, but directly to the soul.
So wherever you may be in life right now, I hope Little Book of Thoughts encourages you to slow down, breathe deeply, feel freely, and most importantly… just be.
